EP-JSLP Trains 186,450 Eastern Province Farmers in Climate-Smart Agriculture

The Eastern Province Jurisdictional Sustainable Landscape Program (EP JSLP) has commenced the training of 186,450 famers in climate smart agriculture CSA to boost resilience and productivity across the province. Using the Farmer Field School and Training of Trainers (ToT) approach, the Project trained the camp extension officers from the 381 Agriculture Camps dotted around the province. The trained CEOs are now training the 16950 Lead Farmers who will each recruit and trainer 10 follower farmers bringing the total number of farmers trained in CSA to 186,450. This approach would ensure that knowledge was cascaded from trained staff to lead farmers and then to rural households enabling wide adoption of climate resilient farming methods under the Ministry of Agriculture.
The training is focusing on a) conservation agriculture (CA) practices and integrated soil fertility management (ISFM), (b) agroforestry, and (c) farmer financial cycle and market-oriented production among other topics.
The EP-JSLP is supported by the World Bank and implemented in collaboration with various stakeholders, aiming to promote sustainable land management practices while enhancing rural livelihoods.
