EP-JSLP INTENSIFIES MULTISECTORAL ENGAGEMENTS IN CHIPATA DISTRICT

Chipata, Zambia, 21stNovember 2025-Chipata District yesterday successfully convened a District Multisectoral Team-DMT meeting under the Eastern Province Jurisdictional Sustainable Landscape Programme-EPJSLP.

The meeting aimed at reviewing implementation progress and strengthening collaboration among key sectors involved in the programme.

 

Stakeholders also presented updates using the official EPJSLP monitoring and reporting template.

The meeting was officiated by District Commissioner Elida Mwanza, represented by the District Administrative Officer Kapembwa Sikazwe.

In her remarks, Ms. Mwanza called on the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry Department, Water Resources Department, and the District Planning Office to enhance teamwork and deliver effectively on the programme’s mandate.

She emphasized that the success of the EP-JSLP is vital to improving community livelihoods and fostering sustainable development across Chipata District.

Ms.Mwanza further pledged the District Administration’s continued support to ensure effective coordination and implementation of all programme activities.

She reaffirmed Chipata’s commitment to working collectively with all sectors to achieve meaningful outcomes that advance climate resilience and sustainable land management.

And speaking during the review session, EP-JSLP Monitoring, Verification, and Reporting-MRV Technical Officer from the Project Implementation Unit, Arthur Asumani, highlighted the core objective of the programme.

Mr Asumani explained that the EPJSLP seeks to generate payments for the Programme Entity based on measured, reported, and verified Emission Reductions-ERs, which will be distributed to beneficiaries through an approved Benefit Sharing Plan.

He further revealed that the programme is targeting the generation of 28,998,310 tonnes of emission reductions by 2030, a milestone that will significantly contribute to Zambia’s national climate action goals while promoting sustainable landscape management.

The MRV Technical Officer underscored the programme’s commitment to supporting community resilience and advancing environmental sustainability in the Eastern Province.

The EPJSLP is a follow-up initiative to the Zambia Integrated Forest Landscape Project-ZIFLP and is being implemented by the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment-MGEE with financial and technical support from the World Bank.

The programme continues to prioritize multisectoral engagement as a key driver for achieving long-term socio-economic and environmental benefits.
