Driving Sustainable Agriculture Forward in Eastern Province

The Eastern Province Jurisdictional Sustainable Landscape Programme (EP-JSLP), together with its nested partner Biocarbon Partners (BCP), today showcased innovative, climate-smart agricultural solutions at the Eastern Provincial Field Day held at Msekera Agriculture Research Station in Chipata District.

The event, held under the theme “Fostering Trade and Investment through Sustainable Agricultural Technologies and Value Chains,” brought together farmers, researchers, and key stakeholders committed to building a greener, more resilient future.

Gracing the occasion, Chipata District Commissioner Elidah Mwanza reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening Research and Development as a cornerstone for achieving Zambia’s 2031 national production targets.

Meanwhile, Zambia Agriculture Research Institute-ZARI Chief Mechanisation Officer Moffatt Khosa highlighted that over the past five years, ZARI has successfully developed and commercialised more than 50 crop varieties significantly transforming the country’s seed and fertilizer industry into a driver of both local and international trade.

Representing Eastern Province Agricultural Coordinator Victor Zulu, Principal Agricultural Officer Kelvin Chinama commended EP-JSLP for empowering farmers with Climate-Smart Agriculture practices that enhance soil health, increase productivity, and promote agroforestry.

The PAO also expressed appreciation to the World Bank for its continued support.

Additionally, he applauded the efforts of Biocarbon Partners-BCP and Community Markets for Conservation-COMACO, whose work under EP-JSLP is advancing sustainable livelihoods and forest conservation through innovative carbon financing initiatives.
