Chieftainess Mwanya Leads the Charge in Community-Driven Climate Action

The Eastern Province Jurisdictional Sustainable Landscape Programme-EP-JSLP continues to make steady progress in strengthening grassroots governance systems that support sustainable natural resource management and emissions reduction. Central to this effort is the establishment of structured, community-led institutions aligned with Community Emissions Reduction Programme Agreements-CERPAs and their performance frameworks.
In Mwanya Chiefdom of Lumezi District, a key milestone was achieved through the successful formation of the Community Emissions Reduction Coordination Committee-CERCC and the initiation of the Community Emissions Reduction Performance Plan-CERPP.

The process was deliberately inclusive and participatory, ensuring that all major stakeholder groups were fairly represented through a transparent election process.
Her Royal Highness Chieftainess Mwanya of the Chewa people played a pivotal role by formally endorsing the elected committee members, reinforcing the importance of traditional leadership in driving sustainable development at the community level.
Her support highlights the growing collaboration between local leadership and development initiatives in addressing climate challenges.
With continued backing from traditional authorities, the EP-JSLP is gaining momentum across the Eastern Province, laying a strong foundation for community ownership, improved governance, and long-term environmental resilience.
