Page 7 The Ministry of Green Economy and Environment has handed over five vehicles to support the Eastern Province Jurisdictional Sustainable Landscape Programme.

Ministry Permanent Secretary DOUTY CHIBAMBA says the vehicles were bought through the United Nations Office for Project Services – UNOPS.

Dr. CHIBAMBA says the initiative is aimed at reducing emissions through promotion of sustainable agriculture, forestry and other land-use activities while improving the livelihoods of communities.

Speaking during the handover ceremony in Lusaka, Dr. CHIBAMBA said the programme will support climate-smart agriculture and sustainable community forest management, among other interventions.

And Project Coordinator NOEL MUCHIMBA said the programme will contribute to reducing carbon emissions while generating financial resources that can be channeled towards improving livelihoods in communities.

And World Bank Group Agriculture Economist MICHAEL KABWE said the Bank has noted the progress made by the Ministry in implementing activities under the programme in Eastern Province.

Meanwhile, Zambia Environmental Management Agency – ZEMA – Director of Human Resource and Administration SIPHO SINKAMBA said the vehicles will play an important role in supporting activities aimed at promoting environmental sustainability
