EP-JSLP Monitors School Feeding Energy Use and Promotes Forest Conservation in Chadiza

The Eastern Province Jurisdictional Sustainable Landscape Programme (EP-JSLP) team, led by Eastern Province Principal Forest Officer Catherine Zulu, visited Chilenga Primary School in Chadiza District to monitor energy use during the ongoing school feeding programme as part of the Hot Season Energy Data Collection exercise.

During the visit, School Headteacher Kizito Phiri appreciated the programme’s efforts in promoting sustainable energy use and forest conservation.

Mr. Phiri appealed to the Ministry, through EP-JSLP, to consider providing agroforestry seedlings to the school, which is also actively involved in forest conservation initiatives.

He highlighted the importance of collecting reliable data to support efficient energy use and reduce pressure on forest resources.

The monitoring exercise, running from October to November 2026, contributes to the programme’s Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) system, which tracks energy use and supports efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across Eastern Province.

Through such engagements, EP-JSLP continues to strengthen community and institutional participation in sustainable landscape management, promoting cleaner energy practices, agroforestry and forest conservation for a greener future.

Protecting forests, promoting clean energy, and nurturing a greener future for our learners!
