CHIEF CHIKWA ENDORSES CERCC AS EP-JSLP DEEPENS COMMUNITY-LED CLIMATE ACTION IN CHAMA DISTRICT
His Royal Highness Chief Chikwa of the Senga people in Chama District has reaffirmed his commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development by endorsing the Community Emissions Reduction Coordination Committee (CERCC) under the Eastern Province Jurisdictional Sustainable Landscape Programme (EP-JSLP).
The endorsement followed a courtesy call by the EP-JSLP team as part of the ongoing rollout of Community Emissions Reduction Coordination Committees (CERCCs) and the development of Community Emissions Reduction Performance Plans (CERPPs) across participating chiefdoms in Eastern Province.
The delegation emphasized the importance of inclusive governance structures that unite traditional leaders, community representatives, and key stakeholders in advancing emissions reduction, sustainable land management, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience.
Speaking during the engagement, Chief Chikwa welcomed the initiative and commended the programme’s commitment to strengthening community participation and traditional leadership involvement in environmental governance.
He expressed confidence that the newly established CERCC will play a vital role in coordinating community-driven efforts aimed at protecting natural resources and improving livelihoods.
The traditional leader formally endorsed the elected CERCC members, reaffirming his support for sustainable natural resource management, environmental stewardship, and climate-smart development within his chiefdom.
The engagement further highlights EP-JSLP’s commitment to working closely with traditional authorities in building resilient communities and advancing coordinated climate action across Eastern Province.
