Empowering Communities Through Effective Grievance Redress for Inclusive and Sustainable Landscape
The Eastern Province Jurisdictional Sustainable Landscape Program–Emission Reduction Project (EP-JSLP), under the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, has trained District Project Officers (DPOs) and Environment and Social Safeguards Focal Point Persons held in Katete District on the formation and operationalisation of Grievance Redress Committees (GRCs).
The training aims to strengthen the Project’s Feedback and Grievance Redress Mechanism (FGRM), equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to ensure that concerns, complaints and feedback from project beneficiaries, workers and other stakeholders are handled promptly, transparently, fairly and confidentially.
Participants were oriented on grievance intake and registration, investigation and resolution, documentation, referral pathways, safeguarding, confidentiality, and the appropriate handling of sensitive complaints, including Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Sexual Harassment (SEA/SH).
The initiative will be followed by community engagements to establish, strengthen and operationalise Community Grievance Redress Committees across the Project’s 56 participating chiefdoms, while strengthening coordination and reporting between communities, district structures and the Project Implementation Unit.
Through this capacity-building initiative, EP-JSLP is promoting accountability, inclusion, community participation and accessible channels for resolving grievances, reinforcing trust and supporting the successful implementation of sustainable landscape management and emission reduction activities.
