EP-JSLP TEAM COURTESY CALLS PARAMOUNT CHIEF MPEZENI AS CLIMATE GOVERNANCE DRIVE EXPANDS IN EASTERN PROVINCE

The Eastern Province Jurisdictional Sustainable Landscape Program-EP-JSLP continues to strengthen engagement with traditional leadership following a courtesy call on His Royal Highness Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni people at Ekuphendukeni Palace in Chipata District.

The delegation, led by EP-JSLP Project Coordinator Mr. Noel Muchimba, visited the palace as part of ongoing programme activities aimed at rolling out Chiefdom Emissions Reduction Coordinating Committees-CERCC and supporting the development of Chiefdom Emissions Reduction Performance Plans-CERPP across participating chiefdoms.

During the engagement, Mr.Muchimba and team briefed the Paramount Chief on the objectives of the programme, emphasizing its focus on strengthening community-led climate action, sustainable land management, and inclusive governance structures for emissions reduction.

His Royal Highness welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting the importance of structured coordination mechanisms that bring together traditional leadership and community stakeholders in addressing environmental challenges.

The visit reaffirmed EP-JSLP’s commitment to working closely with traditional authorities in advancing climate-smart development and strengthening governance systems across Eastern Province.
