From Follower to Leader: Isaac Mumba’s Climate-Smart Farming Success

Isaac Mumba, a 45-year-old farmer from Fumba Agricultural Camp in Chief Ndake’s area of Nyimba District, has transformed his farming journey through dedication to Climate Smart Agriculture-CSA. He first joined the Zambia Integrated Forest Landscape Programme-ZIFLP in 2021 as a follower farmer under lead farmer Nelson Banda.

Because of his hard work and commitment to adopting CSA practices, he was selected as a lead farmer in 2025 under the Eastern Province Jurisdictional Sustainable Landscape Programme-EPJSLP, a World Bank supported initiative promoting sustainable land management, forest conservation, and community resilience.

Through improved yields from CSA technologies, Mr. Mumba has strengthened his livelihood and even purchased a motorbike.

This farming season he has cultivated two hectares of maize using CSA practices and continues to inspire other farmers as an active member of the Sichibende Farmer Field School in Fumba Agricultural Camp.
