Media Takes a Stand Against Gender-Based Violence in Eastern Province

Media, Communication, and Public Relations practitioners have successfully concluded a five-day Gender-Based Violence-GBV Reporting and Advocacy Training in Katete District, Eastern Province, marking an important step toward responsible, ethical, and sensitive reporting on GBV and other social vices.

Closing the training, Assistant Secretary Clement Chilembo urged media professionals to embrace ethical, responsible, and professional reporting on GBV, teenage pregnancies, and early marriages.

Mr.Chilembo emphasized that responsible storytelling can drive positive social change, protect survivors, and help eradicate GBV and related social challenges.

And one of the participants, Katete Radio Programme Manager Innocent Phiri, said the training has significantly strengthened the media’s capacity to report accurately, ethically, and responsibly, particularly as Katete is among the districts implementing Spotlight Initiative 2.0.

The training, organized by the International Organization for Migration-IOM, brought together journalists from across Eastern Province to enhance skills in ethical GBV reporting and advocacy.

Implemented under Spotlight Initiative 2.0, the training is supported by the Government of Ireland, in partnership with the Government of Zambia and other key stakeholders.

Among the participants was the Eastern Province Jurisdictional Sustainable Landscape Programme-EPJSLP Communication Officer, whose involvement is expected to strengthen ethical, gender-sensitive, and survivor-centred communication across the programme.
