MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE APPLAUDS EP-JSLP FOR CLIMATE-SMART AGRICULTURE INCENTIVES IN CHADIZA DISTRICT
Chadiza, Zambia-28 November 2025-The Eastern Province Jurisdictional Sustainable Landscape Programme (EP-JSLP), through its Project Implementation Unit-PIU, has continued to conduct district-level orientation and awareness meetings aimed at engaging key stakeholders from government, the private sector, and civil society.
These meetings are designed to orient the District Multisectoral Team (DMT) on the programme and its implementation framework.
The primary objective of the district inception meetings is to strengthen understanding of the Project Development Objectives (PDOs), project components, key activities, and the roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders in order to enhance coordination, implementation efficiency, and overall programme effectiveness.
The meetings further aim is to reinforce institutional arrangements necessary for the successful roll-out of the EP-JSLP at district level.
This orientation process is critical to ensuring smooth implementation, strong stakeholder engagement, and the effective achievement of the project’s intended outcomes.
Officiating the meeting, Chadiza District Commissioner Malan Zimba, who represented by the District Administrative Officer Masautso Mwale called on the District Multisectoral Team-DMT to collaborate effectively and develop coordinated plans to support the successful implementation of the EP-JSLP.
He highlighted the importance of building on the achievements of the Zambia Integrated Forest Landscape Project-ZIFLP, which the EP-JSLP succeeds.
And speaking during the orientation meeting in Chadiza District, District Agricultural Coordinator Kahengi Ziko commended the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, through the EP-JSLP, for providing incentives under the Climate-Smart Agriculture-CSA component.
Mr. Kayengi stated that the CSA incentives will motivate farmers to adopt improved agricultural practices, leading to enhanced production and productivity across various crops in the district.
He further encouraged farmers to take advantage of the initiative as a means to improve environmental management and ensure long-term agricultural sustainability.
The DACO also urged the PIU team to continue working closely with district-level stakeholders and implementing agencies to guarantee the success of the project.
Meanwhile, EP-JSLP Monitoring, Verification, and Reporting-MRV Technical Officer, Arthur Asumani, revealed that the project is financed by the World Bank, in partnership with the Global Environment Facility-GEF and other cooperating partners, at a total cost of USD 43.9 million.
He explained that the project aims to generate payments for emission reductions based on independently measured, reported, and verified results.
These payments will be distributed to project beneficiaries in accordance with an approved Benefit Sharing Plan.
The EP-JSLP builds on the achievements of the Zambia Integrated Forest Landscape Project (ZIFLP) and is being implemented by the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment (MGEE).
