MPHAMBA CHIEFDOM JOINS CERCC & CERPP ROLLOUT UNDER EP-JSLP CLIMATE ACTION DRIVE

His Royal Highness Chief Mphamba of the Tumbuka people in Eastern Province has received a courtesy call from a delegation under the Eastern Province Jurisdictional Sustainable Landscape Program-EP-JSLP as part of the ongoing rollout of emissions reduction governance structures.
The visit forms part of the broader programme officially launched in 2024, which is now actively engaging participating chiefdoms to establish Chiefdom Emissions Reduction Coordinating Committees-CERCC and develop Chiefdom Emissions Reduction Performance Plans-CERPP.
During the engagement, the delegation leader by EP-JSLP Environmental and Social Inclusion Officer, Godfrey Phiri briefed the Chief on the proposed stakeholder composition and outlined the process for forming the CERCC, emphasizing that the committee will be established through an inclusive election process followed by formal endorsement from His Royal Highness.
The Chief warmly welcomed the initiative, highlighting the importance of structured governance systems similar to those already being implemented in other chiefdoms under the programme.
The traditional leader noted that Mphamba Chiefdom, centrally located within Lundazi District, stands to benefit significantly from a well-coordinated approach to natural resource governance and emissions reduction.
His Royal Highness further assured the delegation of his full support and committed to mobilizing identified stakeholder groups to ensure active participation in the upcoming community engagement meeting.
The engagement marks another important step in strengthening inclusive chiefdom-level governance and advancing coordinated climate action across Eastern Province.
