PICSA Training Gains Momentum in Katete District
The Participatory Integrated Climate Services for Agriculture-PICSA training for 89 Camp Extension Officers in Eastern Province is underway in Katete District, aiming to strengthen climate-smart agricultural advisory services.
The training equips extension officers with participatory tools and the use of historical rainfall data, alongside seasonal and short-term weather forecasts, to help farmers make informed decisions on crops, livestock, and livelihoods.
Supported by the Eastern Province Jurisdictional Sustainable Landscape Programme-EP-JSLP with technical support from GIZ, and implemented in collaboration with the Zambia Meteorological Department, the Ministry of Agriculture, and NGOs, the initiative ensures climate information is localized, practical, and farmer-centred.
The programme targets previously underserved camps to close capacity gaps across the province.
The PICSA Training was officially opened by Eastern Provincial Agricultural Coordinator Mr Victor Zulu, the five-day training focuses on building the capacity of extension officers to deliver EPICSA digital climate services.
Expected outputs include trained extension officers, a comprehensive training report, stronger collaboration between key institutions, improved user-focused climate products, and distribution of the PICSA manual and field guides.
