TUWIMBA 2026: A VIBRANT CELEBRATION OF NSENGA CULTURE, UNITY & HERITAGE!
This past weekend, the heart of Senior Chief Luembe’s Chiefdom in Nyimba District, Eastern Province, was buzzing with life as the Nsenga-speaking community came together for the annual Tuwimba Traditional Ceremony a lively celebration of culture, identity, and togetherness.
Under the gracious hosting of His Royal Highness Senior Chief Luembe, the 2026 ceremony shone a spotlight on the rich traditions of the Nsenga people, all under the inspiring theme: “TUWIMBA!! OUR CEREMONY.”
At the heart of the festivities was the Tuwimba rite, performed by clan representatives alongside Senior Chief Luembe, Chief Nyalugwe, and Chieftainess Mwape. This reaffirmed the vital role of traditional leadership and the deep roots of ancestral heritage.
Culture and environmental sustainability were also key themes. The Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, through the Eastern Province Jurisdictional Sustainable Landscape Programme (EPJSLP) Emission Reduction Project, teamed up with Biocarbon Partners (BCP) to celebrate this significant cultural event in Simalama Village.
The ceremony was further graced by the Mwandi Royal Establishment, represented by Prime Minister of Mwandi Kuta accompanied by Prince Imasiku Imwiko, Nduna Lyashimba, and, Chief Steward Nduna Wamulwa.
They came as representatives of His Royal Highness Anan’anga Imwiko of Mwandi Chiefdom, following a warm invitation from the Nsenga Royal Establishment.
Their presence added a unique touch to the celebration, showcasing how culture knows no boundaries, connects communities, and strengthens the ties between Zambia’s traditional institutions.
From traditional rites and royal leadership to music, community spirit, and cultural pride, Tuwimba 2026 was more than just a ceremony, it was a heartfelt reminder of the people’s roots and the heritage they carry forward into the future.
