Chieftainess Nyanje Champions Development for Future Generations as EP-JSLP Committee is Formed and Endorsed

The formation of the Community Emissions Reduction Coordination Committee-CERCC under the Eastern Province Jurisdictional Sustainable Landscape Programme-EP-JSLP continues to gain momentum, with the latest milestone reached in Chieftainess Nyanje’s chiefdom of the Nsenga people in Sinda District.
A team led by Adelia Malenga conducted sensitization meetings aimed at deepening community understanding of the programme.
This was followed by the successful coordination of elections for the CERCC, a key structure tasked with spearheading the implementation of EP-JSLP at community level.

In a significant show of traditional leadership support, the team paid a courtesy call on Her Royal Highness Chieftainess Nyanje to formally introduce the newly elected committee.
The Chieftainess endorsed the committee and emphasized unity, while reaffirming her commitment to ensuring that the programme drives meaningful development and creates lasting benefits for both present and future generations.
The engagements also focused on key programme components, including the EP-JSLP, signed Emission Reduction Performance Agreements-CERPAs, CERPA Performance Plans, and the roles and responsibilities of the CERCC.
Community participation remained central to the process, with members actively involved in electing representatives.
The committee reflects inclusive representation, bringing together traditional leaders, women, youth, persons with disabilities, and farmer groups further strengthening local governance and community ownership.
The successful elections mark a significant step toward sustainable development and long-term environmental stewardship in Eastern Province.
