Eastern Province Farmers Embrace Climate-Smart Future at GART Expo 2026

Fifteen districts from Eastern Province, supported by the World Bank through the Eastern Province Jurisdictional Sustainable Landscape Programme-EP-JSLP under the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, are taking part in the Golden Valley Agricultural Research Trust-GART Expo in Chisamba District.
The exposure visit is helping smallholder farmers and extension officers learn practical Climate Smart Agriculture-CSA technologies.
Held under the theme “Technology, Transformation & Trade,” the 2026 GART Expo has brought together key players in Zambia’s agricultural sector to showcase innovations that improve farming, build resilience to climate change, and promote sustainable land use.

The Eastern Province Distributional Sustainable Landscape Programme-EP-JSLP team made up of project staff, district officers, and selected farmers is led by the focal point person Benard Chungu from the Ministry of Agriculture in Eastern Province.
“We are here at GART to learn about Climate Smart Agriculture systems that match what we are promoting back home. We expect you to use this knowledge so more farmers can benefit,” he said.

Farmers are seeing and learning new farming methods that can help them increase production and adapt to climate change.
“Now that you have seen these technologies, you are in a better position to use them and share them with others in your communities,” Chungu added.
After the visit, participants are expected to return with new skills and ideas to help improve farming and strengthen climate resilience in Eastern Province.
