The Promotion of Climate Smart Agriculture Journey in Mambwe District

…As COMACO-Supported Farmers Record Success in Agroforestry and Climate-Smart Crop Production under EP-JSLP

As part of ongoing Climate-Smart Agriculture-CSA information collection and dissemination activities in Mambwe District, a team led by EP-JSLP Communications Officer Creavat Chituta visited EP-JSLP nested partner COMACO to appreciate the progress being made in promoting sustainable farming practices among smallholder farmers.

The visit highlighted successful maize and groundnut production under CSA interventions supported by COMACO, where farmers are integrating agroforestry practices to improve soil fertility, increase productivity, and strengthen climate resilience.

Lead Farmer Liness Sakala together with Essau Njovu, Chairperson of the COMACO-supported demonstration plot, shared their success story on adopting improved farming practices and nurturing Gliricidia trees as part of agroforestry management. The farmers explained how the integration of trees with crop production is contributing to healthier soils, better yields, and sustainable land management.

Mambwe COMACO Regional Coordinator Daka Jimmy Ngosa was also on hand to outline the positive impact the programme is having across the district through farmer empowerment, environmental conservation, and promotion of climate-resilient agriculture.

The initiative continues to demonstrate how partnerships under EP-JSLP are transforming rural livelihoods while promoting sustainable agricultural development and forest protection in Mambwe District.
