LILONGWE – May 26, 2026
The World Bank has convened a high-level Strategic Communication Meeting in Lilongwe, Malawi, bringing together communications, Public Relations Specialists, and Project Implementation Units (PIUs) from Zambia and Malawi. The objective is to strengthen public engagement, transparency, and trust in the delivery of development programmes.
The meeting has drawn participation from key Zambian institutions, including the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment and the Ministry of Energy. Also represented are the Ministries of Education, Tourism, Commerce, Water and Sanitation Development, and Health, alongside the Public Private Dialogue Forum (PPDF), ZESCO Limited,GEWEL, and the Rural Electrification Authority.
The training is centered on practical skills that improve how projects communicate with the public. Other key areas of focus include strategic communication and stakeholder engagement,results storytelling and reputational risk management,Environmental risk,communication, social media strategy and crisis communication, use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to improve communication effectiveness
The platform will enable knowledge exchange between Zambia and Malawi, while strengthening the Ministry’s capacity to communicate ministerial programmes, development initiatives, and national priorities. The outcome expected is improved public trust and stronger stakeholder engagement.
The Ministry remains committed to strengthening communication systems that support the green growth agenda.
Zambia’s delegation representing the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment are: Ms. Harriet Malambo Chimuka, Principal Public Relations Officer, and the Eastern Province Jurisdictional Sustainable Landscape Programme (EP-JSLP) is being represented by Mr. Creavat Chituta, Communications Officer and Mr. Mushokabantu Likulunga, Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist. Ms. Mary Mwiikisa, Climate Change reporter, is also representing the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC).
