Mambwe Forestry Officer Calls for Sustainable Forest Management
The Mambwe District Forestry Senior Extension Officer, Mr. Gostavos Mwelwa, has called on communities to sustainably use and manage forest resources to protect the environment and support livelihoods.
Speaking on Radio Mankanya during an EP-JSLP-sponsored radio talk show presented by Dorothy Miti, Mr. Mwelwa discussed the important role of stakeholders in natural resource management and highlighted the many benefits forests provide to communities.
While acknowledging that tree cutting cannot be completely stopped, Mr. Mwelwa urged communities to take responsibility for managing tree resources sustainably. He encouraged residents to adopt energy-saving cookstoves and agroforestry practices to reduce pressure on forests.
Protecting our forests today means securing sustainable livelihoods for tomorrow.
