FARMERS URGED TO HEED CLIMATE ADVISORIES AS EL NIÑO THREAT LOOMS

Farmers in Mambwe and Kasenengwa have been urged to take seriously the Ministry of Agriculture’s climate change advisories as the country prepares for the potential impacts of a strong El Niño, which could trigger drought conditions in some areas.

Speaking during the Eastern Province Jurisdictional Sustainable Landscape Programme (EP-JSLP) Talk Show on Radio Mankhanya, EP-JSLP District Project Officer for Mambwe and Kasenengwa, Mr. Tobias Phiri, encouraged farmers to use the advisories to make informed decisions ahead of the farming season.

He said following official climate advisories can help farmers plan their farming activities, manage climate-related risks and select drought-tolerant crop varieties suited to anticipated conditions.
