Lead Farmers: Extension advisories the “Medicine” For Sustainable Farming
Lead farmers under the EP-JSLP in Mambwe District say utilizing lessons and agricultural advisories from extension officers is key to successful and sustainable farming.
Speaking during an EP-JSLP-sponsored Radio Talk Show on Radio Mkhanya, Nicholas Mbewe, a Lead Farmer from Mathias Village in Masumba 1 Agricultural Camp, said farmers could achieve more by adopting climate-smart agriculture practices.
Mr.Mbewe said adhering to advice from extension officers was the “medicine” needed for sustainable yields.
And fellow Lead Farmer, Stazio Daka, said sticking to traditional farming methods was no longer profitable.
Mr.Daka explained that the yields farmers obtain from large portions of land using traditional methods cannot be compared to what farmers practicing climate-smart agriculture are harvesting from smaller, well-managed plots.
