Building Momentum for Climate Action: Kakumbi Chiefdom Joins the Movement

In a continued show of unity and commitment, His Royal Highness Chief Kakumbi of the Kunda people in Mambwe District has endorsed the newly elected Community Emissions Reduction Coordination Committee-CERCC, reinforcing a growing, district-wide front for community-led climate action.

This milestone is part of the Eastern Province Jurisdictional Sustainable Landscape Programme-EP-JSLP, implemented by the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment with support from the World Bank.

Through this initiative, EP-JSLP working closely with its nested partners, Community Markets for Conservation-COMACO and BioCarbon Partners-BCP, alongside key stakeholders is advancing the formation of CERCCs to strengthen local governance in emissions reduction efforts.

The engagement in Kakumbi Chiefdom reflects a broader provincial rollout, with CERCCs being established across all 56 chiefdoms in Eastern Province.

These committees are designed to empower communities to take an active role in sustainable land management, climate resilience, and the protection of natural resources.

By endorsing the CERCC, It’s a clear signal that lasting environmental impact begins with coordinated local action and strong partnerships.

Together, Kakumbi Chiefdom is helping drive a shared vision for a greener, more resilient future.
