EPJSLP Reviews Progress Towards Climate and Emission Reduction Targets
The EPJSLP Project Implementation Unit (PIU) has held a two-day progress review meeting to assess implementation of activities under the 2026 Workplan and Budget for the period 1 January to 30 July 2026.
The meeting, graced by EPJSLP Project Coordinator Noel Muchimba, provided an opportunity for the PIU to take stock of achievements, identify implementation gaps and strengthen efforts towards meeting the Project Development Objective (PDO).
Speaking during the meeting, Mr.Muchimba emphasised the need for PIU staff and implementing partners to ensure that project activities remain aligned with the PDO of generating payments to the Programme Entity for measured, reported and verified Emission Reductions (ERs) and distributing the payments in accordance with the agreed Benefit Sharing Plan (BSP).
The project is promoting sustainable land management practices and low-carbon livelihood investments aimed at reducing deforestation and forest degradation, enhancing forest carbon stocks under REDD+, and increasing carbon sequestration in agricultural soils.
Key investment areas include Sustainable Forest Management, Climate-Smart Agriculture, Energy Efficiency, Rangeland and Livestock Management, and Participatory Land Use Planning.
The programme seeks to reward community efforts to reduce approximately 3 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent between 2024 and 2029, while contributing to an overall target of more than 20 million tonnes of Emission Reductions by 2030.
The review meeting reaffirmed the PIU’s commitment to accelerating implementation, strengthening accountability and ensuring that project investments deliver meaningful climate and livelihood benefits to communities.
