EP-JSLP Participates at SIFAZ National Field Day in Petauke

The Eastern Province Jurisdictional Sustainable Landscape Programme-EP-JSLP proudly participated in the Sustainable Intensification of Smallholder Farming Systems in Zambia-SIFAZ National Field Day held in Petauke District showcasing impactful solutions for a greener, more resilient future.
Representing the Project Implementation Unit, the EP-JSLP District Project Officer for Petauke and Lusangazi, Chipango Lukungu, engaged farmers and stakeholders, highlighting the programme’s mission to reduce deforestation, restore degraded landscapes, and improve livelihoods through Climate-Smart Agriculture.
Supported by the Government of the Republic of Zambia, the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, and the World Bank, EP-JSLP continues to empower communities through sustainable land use practices.
FAO Country Representative, Suze Percy-Filippini (in white), toured the EP-JSLP exhibition stand, while EU Programme Manager Marcello Rocca, representing the EU Ambassador to Zambia and COMESA, Karolina Stasiak, also attended highlighting strong international collaboration.

The EPJSLP project aims to generate payments for an estimated 28.9 million tons of measured, reported, and verified Emission Reductions-ERs from reduced deforestation, forest degradation, enhancement of forest carbon stocks (REDD+), agriculture, and other land use (AFOLU) sectors, with benefits distributed through an agreed plan by 2030.
Strategically, the programme is positioned to generate approximately 28.9 million tonnes of carbon credits for sale to the World Bank and other global buyers, with revenues shared 15% to government and programme operations, 30% to private carbon project developers, and 55% directly benefiting communities across 56 chiefdoms.
The Ministry has already secured USD 30 million from the World Bank for the purchase of 3 million tonnes of verified carbon credits, with a structured agreement in place to ensure transparent and performance-based distribution of revenues to partners implementing key mitigation initiatives such as sustainable forest management, climate-smart agriculture, and energy-efficient cookstoves.
From conservation agriculture to agroforestry and improved market access, EP-JSLP continues to champion innovative approaches that strengthen resilience and boost productivity among smallholder farmers.
