Petauke Lead Farmer Inspires Visitors with Climate-Smart Agriculture Success at EP-JSLP Stand

One of the highlights at the Eastern Province Agriculture and Commercial Show was the inspiring testimony of Peter Mumba, an adopted lead farmer from Lusowe Farmer Field School in Lusowe Agricultural Camp, Nyika Block, under Chief Kalindawalo in Petauke District.
At the Eastern Province Jurisdictional Sustainable Landscape Programme (EP-JSLP) stand, Mr. Mumba shared his successful journey in Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) with fellow lead farmers, follower farmers, and other show visitors.
He explained how adopting agroforestry practices has transformed his farming enterprise and improved productivity.

Through the Farmer Field School approach, Mr. Mumba has embraced the integration of beneficial tree species such as Gliricidia sepium and Musangu, using their leaves as natural fertilizer instead of synthetic inputs.
This sustainable practice has improved soil fertility, increased crop yields, and strengthened resilience to climate change.
His story generated keen interest among farmers visiting the stand, demonstrating how practical, environmentally friendly farming methods can improve livelihoods while conserving natural resources. The exchange of experiences encouraged other farmers to adopt climate-smart technologies in their own communities.
These achievements have been made possible through the Eastern Province Jurisdictional Sustainable Landscape Programme (EP-JSLP), with support from the World Bank, promoting sustainable agriculture and landscape management across Eastern Province.
