CLIMATE-SMART FARMING TAKES ROOT IN VUBWI
The Eastern Province Jurisdictional Sustainable Landscape Programme (EPJSLP) is stepping up efforts to promote Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) among farmers in Vubwi District.
Speaking on an EPJSLP-sponsored radio programme on Kwathu Radio, Vubwi District Project Officer Ms.Ansela Mulenga and District Agricultural Coordinator Ms.Philemon Lungu discussed the project and the importance of adopting climate-smart farming practices.
Mr. Lungu explained that in Vubwi, the project is working with 25 Farmer Field Schools and 15 agricultural camps, reaching 725 lead farmers and 7,250 follower farmers.
And EPJSLP Vubwi and Chadiza District Project Officer Ansela Mulenga said EPJSLP is working closely with Government departments, including the Forestry Department, Ministry of Agriculture, and Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, to ensure continuity beyond the project lifespan.
The programme is also promoting lead farmer-to-follower farmer extension, farmer exposure visits and demonstration plots, with each lead farmer receiving a demonstration pack to showcase climate-smart practices to fellow farmers.
EPJSLP is an emission reduction project supported by the World Bank.
