Senior Chief Mwase Champions Bold Climate Action in Lundazi

As EPJSLP continues to advance its objective of promoting sustainable livelihoods and reducing emissions through community-led natural resource management, a community sensitization meeting was held in Lundazi where His Royal Highness, through the indunas, successfully mobilized key stakeholders ensuring strong representation and active participation across the chiefdom.

The session introduced the EP-JSLP program, helping both new and returning participants understand its objectives and role in supporting emissions reduction efforts.

Clarifications were provided on the role of the CERCC, emphasizing that existing community structures will continue their work while being better coordinated under the new framework.

Speaking during the meeting, Zambia Community Based Natural Resources Management Association-CBNRM Ms. Sakambuta Kutemba highlighted the importance of inclusive participation, noting that “strong community structures depend on equal representation and active involvement of all stakeholder groups.”

And Mr. Isaac Banda from CBRNM also added that the CERCC will play a critical role in coordinating efforts and ensuring communities effectively contribute to emissions reduction under the CERPP.

The CERCC election process emphasized gender balance and inclusivity, resulting in the election of ten members representing diverse community groups.

The committee was formally presented at the palace.

His Royal Highness Senior Chief Mwase Senior Chief Mwase of the Chewa people of Lundazi officially endorsed both the CERCC and the Chiefdom Emissions Reduction Performance Plan-CERPP, affirming the committee’s mandate to lead local climate action initiatives.

In his remarks, the Chief encouraged accountability, commitment, and unity in serving the community.
